Modern scope: 2023 onward
This collector-focused list starts with Scarlet ex and Violet ex, the beginning of the current set-code system covered by this site. It includes booster expansions, enhanced expansions, and High Class Packs through the Mega Evolution series.
Decks, promo series, and standalone products are deliberately excluded. Older eras are being verified separately instead of being presented as an incomplete all-time list.
2025–2026
Mega Evolution series
Japan began the Mega Evolution series with the paired M1 expansions. Main sets, High Class Packs, and special expansions use the M code family.

How Japanese Pokémon sets work
Japanese sets release first
Japan normally publishes smaller expansions more frequently than the international game. Two Japanese main sets may launch together, followed by an enhanced expansion several weeks later. International sets then combine those card pools with cards from decks or promotional releases.
Use the code, not only the name
Codes such as SV8a and M1S appear on the card and identify the exact Japanese release. The suffix can separate paired products or mark a smaller enhanced set. Names vary slightly between translations; the printed code does not.
Main set versus master set
Japanese packaging states the numbered main-set size, while secret cards use collector numbers above that denominator. A complete master set therefore contains more cards than the advertised main set. Our card-list pages state which total they cover instead of silently mixing the two.
English connections are not exact equivalents
The table says “English connection” because a one-to-one match is uncommon. Use it to find the likely international release, then compare collector numbers and card images before treating two checklists as equivalent.
FAQ
Japanese Pokémon set questions
What is the difference between Japanese and English Pokémon sets?
Japanese expansions usually release first and are often smaller. An English expansion may combine cards from two Japanese main sets, an enhanced expansion, decks, and promotional products, so the sets are not always one-to-one.
What do Japanese Pokémon set codes mean?
The letters identify the series and the number identifies the release order. S and V distinguish paired Scarlet and Violet sets, while suffix a commonly marks an enhanced or special pack. The printed code is the safest way to identify a card's source set.
Are secret rares included in a Japanese set's printed total?
Usually not. A card numbered above the denominator, such as 090/071, is outside the numbered main set. Collector checklists therefore distinguish the main-set total from the complete master-set total.
Does this list include Japanese decks and promo cards?
No. This page covers booster expansions from the Scarlet & Violet and Mega Evolution series. Decks, promo series, and standalone products are excluded so that set codes and release order remain comparable.
